Probably a patronym in {{m||-al-}}, though it can maybe not be entirely excluded that the name is a personal name formed with onomastic {{m||-al- 2|-al-}} (see the inscription page). The base may be {{m||ret-}} 'run, race' or {{m||rēd-}} 'ride, drive'; monothematic names or formations with {{m||-al- 2|-al-}} are attested for neither. Unlikely, but possible in principle is a connection with the ethnonym ''raeti'' (or rather its hypothetical vernacular base; cf. {{bib|CIL}} V 5408). Commentary
Probably a patronym in -al-, though it can maybe not be entirely excluded that the name is a personal name formed with onomastic -al- (see the inscription page). The base may be ret- 'run, race' or rēd- 'ride, drive'; monothematic names or formations with -al- are attested for neither. Unlikely, but possible in principle is a connection with the ethnonym raeti (or rather its hypothetical vernacular base; cf. CIL V 5408). See Tibiletti Bruno 1978-9: 259 f., Morandi 2004: 564.
