Inscribed near the foot. Alpha in Morandi's drawing has a curious shape with a short right hasta; Morandi's remark that the inscription can be dated to no earlier than the 4th–3rd century indicates that he takes it for an alpha with two hastae, but open at the bottom, as displayed above (rather than younger upright 
inclined and turned against writing direction). Probably an abbreviation of a personal name; see kat.
