The unglazed cup is one of the objects claimed by Domenico Pini to have been excavated by him in June/July 1901 at the [[Giubiasco necropolis]], but may have been bought, or found at nearby Pianezzo ({{bib|Tori et al. 2004}}: 27 f., 64 f., 69). The forged grave complex is described in {{bib|Tori et al. 2004}}: 242 f. See also {{bib|Ulrich 1914}} I: 611.<br />

The dating follows {{bib|De Marinis & Biaggio Simona 2000}} II: 462, no. 533. Morandi's dating ({{bib|Morandi 1999|1999}}: 161, no. 3 and {{bib|Morandi 2004|2004}}) to the first half of the 1<sup>st</sup> century BC must be disregarded, as it is based on the forged association with a ''gens Vibia'' coin (86–81 BC).<br />
