Probably a Gaulish PN *Nemeti̯o < *nemeto- adapted to Etruscan (De Simone 1980: 198-199, fn. 5, Bermond Montanari 1979: 296, Piana Agostinetti 2004: 31, cf. GPN: 234ff., KGP: 246ff.). For cognates see De Simone 1980: 199-200, fn. 9-12, fn. 17, CIL: III 5109. Etruscan -i̯e-stem, corresponding to Germanic -i̯o-stems (De Simone 1980: 198-199, fn. 6, De Simone 1970: 103ff.).
