Commentary
An isolated sequence pe appears with notable frequency in the area of Bergamo, three times on pottery and three times in the Carona petrographs, and once on pottery at Como. Not all attestations are from the same chronological phases, though; the instances on ceramics include application before and after firing. In the petrographs, pe may be an abbreviation of the theonym penini, which is not entirely likely for the ceramic documents (esp. BG·39); the cumulation of attestations in the province Bergamo is certainly suggestive, but of course we also know personal names beginning in pe- (cf. Morandi 2007: 297, no. 21, 300, no. 29). Non-language-encoding marks can also not be excluded.
