Personal name in the nominative, either an ''o''-stem with loss of final /{{p||s}}/ (see [[The Cisalpine Celtic Languages]]), or an ''on''-stem with substitution of /{{p||ū}}/ with /{{p||ō}}/ under Latin influence. See {{bib|Stifter 2010}}: 372 on the reading of san as /{{p||d}}/. The name could be connected with Latin names in ''dur''-, which are derived from Lat. ''dūrus'' 'hard' (cf. Stifter ibid.), but the base ''dur''- is also well attested in Celtic onomastics (and may have the same etymology, see {{m||dūr-}}). If an ''on''-stem, the name is a hypocoristic, while a thematic formation without a suffix *''dūros'' would be reminiscent of Lepontic simplex names (see [[Onomastics]]).
