The ''u''-stem ''lūtu''- in Gaulish personal names such as {{bib|CIL}} XIII 7553 {{tr|lat|lutumarus}}, V 3358 {{tr|lat|lutonia}} (Verona), {{bib|AE}} 1955, 611 {{tr|lat|lutullae}} (Como) (see {{bib|Delamarre 2007}}: 121, 225) is usually connected with OIr. ''lúth'' 'power of movement, vigour' as in the PN ''lúthmhár'', which corresponds exactly to the Gaulish ''lutumaros'' lit. 'great in strength/vigour'. The translation as 'passion, anger' uel. sim (e.g. {{bib|KGP}}: 233 f., {{bib|DLG}}: 212, {{bib|Matasović 2009}}: 250) stems from an assumed connection with MW ''llid'' 'rage', which may not belong here (see {{m||lāt-}}); a further connection with Slavic forms like OCS ''ljutъ'' 'angry' ({{bib|IEW}}: 691) is thus also doubtful (see {{bib|GPN}}: 218, {{bib|Zair 2012}}: 116).
