to-adjective from the PIE root *perh₃- 'provide' (LIV²: 474 f.). Lexically in OIr. rath 'favour, boon', W rhad, MCorn. ras 'grace, favour', possibly Gaul. RIG L-98 ratet, rat, cf. Irslinger 2002: 272, DLG: 255, Matasović 2009: 140 s.v. *frato- (with literature on the irregular(?) short /a/). Element in numerous Gaulish personal names, e.g. suratus, ceniratus, dioratus, -a, ratumedia (attesting a formation with -tu-?), ratulla, see KGP: 256 f., GPN: 240 f., DLG: 255, Stüber 2005: 104, Delamarre 2007: 229 et passim.
