Commentary

Lexically in OIr., OW, OBret. nem 'sky', probably with assimilation of the root-final to the inital consonant < PIE *nébh-es 'cloud, sky' (see Matasović 2009: 288 f., NIL: 499–501 with n. 9, DLG: 234 f., LEIA: N-8). Gaulish personal names which may be derived from the base include numerous names in nem- such as CIL V 8125.20 nemasi (gen.).
