Commentary
In the context of a typological discourse about flection and structure of the Indo-European languages, it is stressed that, while the Gaulish still has the dative in its proper grammatical function, but in the form "-u" (and Breton as well as Irish use a grammatical construction with the Proto-Celtic preposition *to), the Lepontic inscriptions, which have to be attributed to a Celtic dialect, have "der idg. Dativ formal und sintattisch noch ganz lebendig" (the Indo-European dative formally and syntactically still very much alive) (p. 213).
