Commentary
The (pre-)historic settlement of Gamsen, located at the sites Bildacker, Breitenweg, Waldmatte and Kridenfluh on the south-eastern border of the modern village and settled since the late Bronze age, has been excavated between 1988 and 1999 after sporadic finds from the 19th and 20th century; the material has been and is still being published in a six-volume collaborative work entitled L'habitat de Gamsen (in Cahiers d'archéologie romande). On the archaeological finds see Paccolat et al. 2019; overview of the sites and chronology p. 27–31.
