The attested form is too fragmentary to be amenable to an etymological analysis. {{bib|Morandi 1999|Morandi (1999}}: 168, fn. 60) presumes that it must be the same abbreviation in [[index::TI·22|TI·22 (Locarno)]] and [[index::VB·7|VB·7 (Ornavasso)]]. The sequence ''kri'' doesn't appear in any other inscription.
The short sequence is most probably an abbreviation of a personal name. Gaulish names with bases in ''kri''° (e.g. ''krito''- 'tremble, terror', ''krikso''- 'curly', see {{bib|DLG}}: 129 f.) are considerably more common than ones in ''gri''° (see {{bib|AcS}} I: 1166–1172, 2041 f., {{bib|Delamarre 2007}}: 77 f., 105 f.). See also {{bib|Morandi 2004}}: 555.

Commentary

The short sequence is most probably an abbreviation of a personal name. Gaulish names with bases in kri° (e.g. krito- 'tremble, terror', krikso- 'curly', see DLG: 129 f.) are considerably more common than ones in gri° (see AcS I: 1166–1172, 2041 f., Delamarre 2007: 77 f., 105 f.). See also Morandi 2004: 555.
