Forcello (ancient name unknown; possibly ''Melpum''? {{bib|De Marinis 2005b}}: 289) was an Etruscan settlement near the confluence of Mincio and Po. Founded c. 540 BC and abandoned c. 375 BC, the site – probably the predecessor of [[Mantova]] – was an important supra-regional trade centre. Excavations conducted by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Lombardia and the University of Milano since 1983 have so far uncovered about 950 m² in the centre of the site, which is estimated to cover about 12 ha.
