The letter forms being identical to those in [[VB·9]], we are inclined to assume that the line is merely a repeated scratch.

Commentary

First published in Bianchetti 1895: 68 (no. 8), 188.

Image in Piana Agostinetti 1972: tav. XXXI.2 (drawing).

Inscribed on the outside bottom near the foot according to Morandi 2004. The drawing by Piana Agostinetti shows an additional oblique line close to the second hasta of upsilon, which was disregarded by Bianchetti (eu as in VB·9, thus also Kretschmer 1905: 98, no. 8, Rhŷs 1913: 60, no. 8, and Piana Agostinetti 1972: 271, no. 2). Whatmough PID 116 f., no. 312 bis read ea (also Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 144; Solinas 1995: 378, no. 137 gives both options); Morandi 2004 identifies the line as iota (eui). The letter forms being identical to those in VB·9, we are inclined to assume that the line is merely a repeated scratch.
