Verb of dedication, well attested in Transalpine Gaulish inscriptions (see Lambert 1994: 103, DLG: 188 f.), but of unclear etymology. See Lambert 1994: 103–105 for a discussion of the traditional etymology involving the connection with OIr. ∙ír 'granted' and a reduplicated perfect from the root PIE *perh₃- 'provide', and, doubtful, Eska & Eska 2022: 176 with literature.
