Names in uek- are not common in Gaulish outside of those in u̯ekti- 'raid', see AcS III: ?, GPN: 284 f., Delamarre 2007: 192. Schmidt KGP: 287 and Meid 2005: 244 assume that u̯ek- is a variant of u̯ik-, the former listing the pairs ro-ui/eco-, di-ui/eco-, uer-vi/ec(c)o- (cf. also Rhŷs 1913: 54 f.), while Evans GPN: 283 prefers to connect "at least of the forms in vec(c)-" with MIr. feccaid 'bends, stoops' (but what about the nasal?) or, if the vowel is long, with Ir. fíach 'obligation, debt'. Also possible is the shortening of formations in u̯e- as a variant of u̯o- + second element in k-, or of course interference from a non-Celtic language.
