Commentary

Numeral 'five' (cardinal and combinatory) with assimilation of anlauting /p/ to /k^u̯/ and subsequent /k^u̯/ > /p/ in P-Celtic. Well attested lexically: Gaul. πομπεδουλα 'cinquefoil' in Pseudo-Dioscorides IV 42 (TLG: 121), OW pimp, OBret. pemp, Corn. pymp, OIr. cóic (DLG s.v. pempe, Matasović 2009: 102, 176 f.), onomastically in Gaul. pinpedunni (KGP: 256). The Cisalpine Celtic attestation has /o/ rather than /e/ (or later /i/, as in the ordinal Gaul. pinpetos at La Graufesenque) in the root, rounded after the PC labiovelar like Ir. cóic and πομπεδουλα (Prosdocimi 1984c: 431).
