Commentary

Incised before firing according to Morandi, but after firing according to Casini & Motta 2018: 122, no. 8. The -shape is more deeply incised than the other lines; the oblique scratch of is doubtful. The two vertical scratches are shortish and seem grouped together. A few other fine lines are visible (see the drawing in Casini & Motta). Morandi interprets the sequence as an indication of the vessel's measurement. Casini & Motta suggest that and could be letters or marks referring to the content of the vessel and a measurement, but the latter sequence does not make a number in any system. Possibly non- or pseudo-script.
