Type: lexical
Meaning: 'run, flee'
Language: Celtic
Phonemic analysis: /tep/-
From PIE: *tek- 'run, flow'
From Proto-Celtic: *tek- 'run'
Attestation: atep, atepa, ateporix, atepu

Commentary

OIr. techid 'flee, escape, retreat', ateich 'turn to so., appeal to so.', MW techu, MBret. techet, Co. têgh 'flee' (IEW: 1059 f., LIV²: 620 f., Schumacher 2004: 629–631, Matasović 2009 s.v. *tekw-o-, LEIA: T-40). Not a common Gaulish name element, conceivably due to the semantic narrowing to 'flight' etc., but possibly attested in Cisalpine Celtic in the deverbal form ad-tep- 'refuge' (?, OIr. attach 'refuge').
