Commentary

Identfied as a verb form by Whatmough PID: 554. < *kŗ-i̯e-t with affixed 3rd person singular perfect ending -e (cf. Eska & Evans 2009: 37, Lejeune 1971: 93-96, Eska & Mercado 2005: 164-165, Meid 1999: 14, Eska 1990: 81-91 (t-preterite), Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 141, 167)

< her- "grasp, enclose" (Lejeune 1971: 90-91, Eska & Mercado 2005: 164).

Tibiletti Bruno (Tibiletti Bruno 1967: 19-21 with n. 14, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 141) puts forward a comparison of this verb with a Nordic form; < *kwer- "make" as proposed by Pisani 1953: 272 (also Pisani 1964: 285) cannot be correct, since */kw/ > /p/ (Eska & Mercado 2005: 164).

< *kerhx- "scatter, pour out", transl. "put / set up", cf. OIr. ·cuirethar (Eska & Mercado 2005: 165).
