Commentary
From the PIE root *tep- 'hot'; while the Insular Celtic forms (OIr. tess 'heat', MW tes, OBret. a tes gl. fotu, OCo. tes gl. feruor, s. Matasović 2009: 345, LEIA: T-54) continue the tu-abstract, Gaulish personal names contain an i-stem *teđi-: CIL V 7276 antesti[ (Susa), V 5991 contessilonis (gen., Milano), teđđil[ (potter's name, Lezoux), s. AcS II: 1801, KGP: 278, DLG: 294 f., Stüber 2005: 100, Delamarre 2007: 234 et passim. On the formation -s-t-, which appears only in Celtic, see Irslinger 2002: 132 f., NIL: 689 f.
