Commentary

Inscribed below the rim of the cup between the two handles; a section of the text is missing with a fragment of the cup. Measurements from Mangani 1986: 278, no. 3. Mangani says that the decoration was made before firing, which seems to include the inscription. Cf. the similar inscription AS 3.1 on an identical object from the same grave.

The text is a standard Etruscan dedicatory speaking inscription. The personal name keivale is grammatically Etruscan, but was classified as etymologically Lepontic/Ligurian by Gambari & Colonna 1988: 154 (see the word page).
