Commentary

Images in Bermond Montanari 1980: 296 (drawing = Sassatelli 2008: 338, fig. 13), Bermond Montanari 1980b: LXXXVII a and b (photos), Arcà & Rubat Borel 2024: 37, fig. 10 (photo).

Inscribed from the bottom toward the top on the face side and then around the top of the ciottolone (length 37.5 cm); due to surface abrasion on this extremity, the reading of iota and epsilon is uncertain (Bermond Montanari 1980: 296). Bermond Montanari 1980: 296 dates the inscription palaeographically to the first half of the 5th century BC; De Simone 1980: 198 adds that no syncope has occurred in nemetieś.

The function of the inscription appears to be unclear – Bermond Montanari 1980: 296 considers it to be funerary, De Simone 1980: 198 an owner's inscription, Sassatelli 2008: 338 a guarantee of weight.

The personal name nemetieś is noted to be "riscontrabile in area gallo-ligure" by Bermond Montanari 1980: 296, who compares Gaul. νεμητον and personal names in nam(et)-. More precise De Simone 1980: 198 f., who identifies the name as a loan from Gaulish; see further on the word page.

Colonna 2004: 303 f. reports an additional character on the back of the stone, resembling a sinistroverse ligature of tau T2 s and epsilon E9 s.
