Incised on the bottom of the plate; see the object page for additional, unrelated marks. Morandi 2004 gives the average height as 2 cm, but alpha is much larger than pi. Upsilon appears to be disturbed by some additional scratches, but Morandi does not qualify his reading. Possibly an abbreviated personal name, as suggested by Morandi, though comparanda with a suitable base are sparse (see the word page); <au> may be a Latinised spelling (cf. BG·29).
