Commentary
Gaulish La Tène grave found in Piazza Ponti in the centre of Gallarate, at ca. 70 cm depth, in april 1949 during construction work for a telephone line. The tomb consists of a stone cist of 2.3 x 1.6 m and 1 m depth, with a 10 cm thick slab on each side and one on top, the floor uncovered. The burial type is not certain, but probably incineration. The furniture comprises about 30 ceramic, bronze and iron objects and indicates a male burial; it can be dated to La Tène D 1 (late 2nd/early 1st century BC). See Bertolone 1950: 68–70, Rapi 2009 and Selmi 2009b: 708 for details, as well as the entry on the RAPTOR map.
