Commentary

In winter 1877/1878, four graves were found by farmers during building work in the grounds of the Villa del Soldo owned by the Turati family. While these four were destroyed and only some items of furniture saved, a fifth grave was excavated on 9th October 1878 by Castelfranco. See Castelfranco 1879 for a detailed description of the find circumstances and material. The graves can be dated to La Tène D 2 based on the typology of some objects (see the object pages) and a specimen of the coin type NM·5.
