Commentary
Lexically in Gaul., W all- 'other, different, second', maybe also W arall, OIr. neut. alall 'other', beside *h₂eli̯o- > PC *ali̯o- 'other, second' in OIr. aile, MW eil, MBret. eil, Co. yl (Stifter 2024: 8, Dunkel 2014: 19, n. 7, 22, n. 9, Matasović 2009: 31, DLG: 39 f.). Both forms may be present in Continental Celtic onomastics, but allo- is more common; names with a i̯-element may contain a separate suffix (cf. alios). See AcS I: 94–106, KGP: 121 f., GPN: 132–134, Delamarre 2007: 17 f., Stüber 2005: 63, 91 (allo- < ali̯o-). It is unclear whether names in allet- (RIIG HER-03-01 (RIG G-224) αλλ̣ετε̣ι̣νος, CIL XII 3396 alletorigi [Nîmes], ILGN 445 alleticciae [Nîmes], CIL XII 1602 aleticia [Lucus Augusti], maybe AE 1984, no. 693 aletianus [Bonn], AE 1995, no. 1211 aleto [Celje]) belong here, as the semantics of a formation with agentive suffix -et- are not evident (cf. Stifter in RIIG).
