to-adjective from the PIE root *bhei̯H- 'strike' (OIr. -bíth 'struck'; cf. bii̯- 'striker'); not clearly in evidence in the Gaulish onomastic record – maybe in some names with second element -bito-, usually listed sub bitu- 'world, age, life'?
