Commentary
Attested in Gaulish compound personal names as first (uesuauus, unless from *u̯esuā- = OIr. feb 'excellence') and second (segouesus and bellouesus in Livy V, 34, bodiues[i], sunnuuesa) element, and in simplex names (e.g. uesus, uesuccius), see KGP: 294, DLG: 318, Delamarre 2007: 236 et passim. Attested lexically in Insular Celtic (OIr. fíu, W. gwiw, Corn. gwyw 'worthy') (NIL: 253, Matasović 2009 s.v. *wesu-, Zair 2012: 49). See also u̯īs-.
