Three dextroverse letters inscribed "sull'emisfero inferiore" (Barelli). Whatmough PID: 96 reads kut from Barelli's drawing, but the latter shows a very small St. Andrew's cross under the oblique hasta of upsilon – unintentional?
Inscribed "sull'emisfero inferiore" of the hydria, apparently complete despite the damage sustained by the vessel. Barelli speaks of "due lettere", but his drawing shows, beside kappa and upsilon, a small St. Andrew's cross under the oblique hasta of upsilon. The reading goes back to Whatmough PID: 96 (based on the drawing; also Pisani 1964: 283 f., no. 120 I, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 146, and Gambari & Colonna 1988: 134, who compare it to VA·32), but seems equally possible. Both may be abbreviations of personal names, see further on the word pages.

Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 146 suggests that the sequence could be an abbreviation of the PN "Cut(t)ius" rather than the Etr. noun qutun (type of vessel); Gambari & Colonna 1988: 134 compare it to VA·32.

The reading kut goes back to Whatmough PID: 96 (based on the drawing; also Pisani 1964: 283 f., no. 120 I, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 146, and Gambari & Colonna 1988: 134, who compare it to VA·32), but ku seems equally possible. Both may be abbreviations of personal names, see further on the word pages.
