Commentary

Personal name in the genitive. Numerous reading variants are possible for the base (o(n)t(t)/d(d)-); the best comparanda are Latinised otius in Italy (CIL X 2909 otio [dat., Pozzuoli], XI 3613 otius [Caere]), but cf. also the on-stem ontioni (dat., Windisch), s. Delamarre 2007: 144–146, 229). Cf. Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 138, Motta 2000: 200. Rhŷs 1913: 15 suggests a connection with OIr. úath 'fear', but this should appear as *(φ)ou̯t-.
