Commentary

Possibly an adjective of appurtenence in -atis, forming locatival derivations in Gaulish ('belonging to X', 'from X'). The base is unclear; PC *gobann- 'smith' is unlikely morphologically, if -atis is used as in Transalpine Gaulish. If the form is an epithet of poininos, the etymology is semantically interesting. Motta in Casini et al. 2008: 97 interprets the form as an i-stem individual name and compares kop.
