Commentary

Image in Vimercati Sozzi 1869: tav. XXIV.3 (n.v.).

Unpainted jar with one handle, comparable to pitchers of type Lovere. The object is depicted in Vimercati Sozzi 1869, and appears to be an old finding from the Lovere area, which includes a settlement and necropolis dating from the Neolithic to the late Bronze age (Colle del Lazzaretto/via Decio Celeri, Poggiani Keller 2007d: 101–108), a Roman necropolis (Valvendra/Via Martinoli/Via Gobetti, late 1^st century BC–early 5^th century AD, Fortunati 2007: 597–605) and two altars for Minerva on Colle San Maurizio (Vavassori 2007 passim). With regard to the dating to the early Imperial age (Morandi, probably typological), it may be presumed that the object comes from the Roman necropolis, though this cannot be verified anymore.
