Commentary

With regard to the Venetic script, Whatmough 1933: 82 (n. xiv) compares the Venetic onomastic base iuvant-, twice spelled with ⟨ii⟩ (see Pellegrini & Prosdocimi 1967 II: 107–109): iiuontove. Indeed, as pointed out by Morandi 2004: 530 (no. 20), /t/ may not be written before /n/, though this, whether orthographical or linguistic, would be a specifically Lepontic feature. /o/ instead of /a/ and the ending (?) °ove are also unexplained.
