The mortarium (type 1) comes from one of the graves which were excavated by Domenico Pini without supervision; the inventory includes objects from different periods and is probably not authentic (Tori et al. 2004: 62, 64, Pernet et al. 2006: 299; the grave complex is described in Tori et al. 2004: 139). On the classification of the object see Pernet et al. 2006: 212 f., 252, cat. 80. See also Ulrich 1914 I: 572.
The dating follows Pernet et al. 2006; De Marinis & Biaggio Simona 2000: 462, no. 532 give the late 2nd–first half of the 1st century BC (also Motta 2000: 212, no. 22).
