Attestation: NO·20 (]?ọ[/]ṭọ[]ịkṇọṣ/ṃatopokios/sola/nimoniknạ) (1)
Language: Celtic
Word Type: proper noun
Semantic Field: patronymic

Grammatical Categories: nom. sg. fem.
Stem Class: ā

Morphemic Analysis: nem-on(-(i)i̯)-ikn (?)
Phonemic Analysis: /ni/īmoniknā/
Meaning: 'daughter of Nimu/Nimon(i)us'

Commentary

Feminine patronym in -ikn-, formed from either an on-stem nimū or an o-stem nimon(ii̯)os (itself derived from nimū). Names in nim- are only very sporadically attested in Gaulish (Delamarre 2007: 141 has one each of nimus and nimius); the best comparanda seem to be AE 1999, 71 nemonius, CIL XII 3450 nemonia. See nem- on the options for the analysis of these names; since variation between short /e/ and /i/ would be irregular (but see GPN: 392), this comparison may support an etymology involving /ē/ (see dēu̯- on variation between /ī/ and /ē/).

See also Motta 1995: 131 f., Morandi 2004: 584.
