Patronym in -(i)i̯- from a name esobn(ii̯)os with loss of final /s/; cf. specifically the attestation of the underlying PN esopnos at Garlasco (unlike the present one is esobn(i)i̯os as e.g. CIL V 7832 exomnius), and exobna in Latin script from (more or less) the same find place, as well as maybe esonius at Cerrione. See Ferrero 1897: 58 f., no. 2, Rhŷs 1913: 51, Pisani 1964: 282, Lejeune 1971: 54 f., n. 139, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 153, Tibiletti Bruno 1981: 172, Solinas 1995: 375, Morandi 2004: 568. See esopnos for details about the analysis and comparanda.
