The inscription is read ipi by Volontè Fredini, sinistroverse il by Morandi, who interprets it as an abbreviation of VA·21 ilauki, but also considers dextroverse ui possible (see the word page for further potential attestations of that sequence at the same necropolis). If the character in question is 
, a numeral 6 is also an option.
