Due to the numerous reading options (t/deg/k(k)(i)i̯os*, the etymology is uncertain – Delamarre 2007: 219, 234 et passim has comparanda for all possible variants, the only ones with equivalent formation being CIL XIII 2123 deccia (Lyon), XIII 5754 decia (Langres). Options for the etymology include DLG: 137 dec- 'ten' and, semantically attractive, 239 f. tecu- 'beautiful'.
