Commentary

First published in Morandi 1999: 168. Examined for LexLep on 17th October 2023.

Images in Stöckli 1975: 179, Taf. 35 (drawing), Morandi 1999: 193, pl.VI.3 (photo) and 168 (drawing).

The two letters, kappa smaller than rho, are inscribed clearly on the shoulder of the bottle close to the neck (length 1.9 cm). Morandi (also 2004) includes a vertical line at a distance to the left of the letters in the reading: kr i (as seen in the drawing above; cf. also Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 144 kr(i)) and compares VB·7 kri, but the scratch in question is unintentional, being of a different colour and less straight and deep than the lines of the letters. Cf. De Marinis & Biaggio Simona 2000: 462, no. 541 (kr).

The inscription may be an abbreviation of a personal name; see the word page.
