Commentary

Preverb (OIr. er-, ir-, Bret. er-), attested only rarely in Gaulish onomastics, viz. in compounds, beside eripoχios, in the potter's name eridubnos (Osw. 116), and arguably in a number of hypocoristic names in eri- (AcS I: 1463, Delamarre 2007: 97). See DLG: 166, Lejeune 1971: 56 f., n. 152, Schmidt KGP: 210 f. (who doubts that eri- 'around, near' can be used in intensifying function). Cf. are-.
