Commentary
See the inscription page on problems with the reading.
If correct, the form is most likely a personal name in the genitive. The base could be ark- or arg-. Names in ark- are quite well attested (e.g. arco, arcello, arcisus, Delamarre 2007: 24 f.), but mainly on the Iberian peninsula; Delamarre 2007: 211 suggests that the base is the Celtiberian equivalent of Gaul. art- with different simplification of the consonant cluster. Names in arg- are mostly formed with the word arganto- 'silver', but Delamarre 2007: 25, 211 also lists argiotalus, which is probably formed with unsuffixed argi̯o- 'white' ('having a white forehead' as in *u̯indotali̯os in the Raetic inscription CE-1.5 vinutalina; cf. DLG: 54, Matasović 2009: 41 f.); a short name from a compound in arganto- is also possible.
