Etymology uncertain; see atepu and ateporix for details, and cf. also the possible abbreviation atep. Specifically on atepa: Tibiletti Bruno 1977b: 125 f., Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 143, Tibiletti Bruno 1981: 177, no. 22, Motta 2000: 210, Stüber 2005: 105. The name is unlikely to be equivalent to atekua/atecua.
