Commentary
karnitu < *karne-i̯e-t with an affixed "perfectivizing third-person singular exponent -u" (cf. Eska & Evans 2009: 37, Eska 2009b: 108-109, Eska 1990: 81-84, Lejeune 1971: 93-96, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 167-168, 169) karnitu is the translation of latin locavit resp. locavit et statuit. This verb derives from a cognate of old irish carn ("a heap of stones marking a grave", see Morandi 1982: 193, Eska & Evans 2009: 35, Lejeune 1971: 35-38, Thurneysen 1925: 382). Of the verb karn- also the 3rd person plural past tense karnitus is attested. Cp. χαρνιτου (Lejeune 1971: 28-29 (Saignon), Eska 1990: 81, RIG G-151, VKG: 156 (χαρνον).
