Commentary

Villanovan cone-shaped waisted beaker of black clay with transparent black glaze, the lower section smooth, the upper section decorated with horizontal lines. On the foot an incised cross, below the waist two stamped horses (cf. CO·47 Breccia). Found by Vincenzo Barelli and Giuseppe Bernasconi in the Visigna necropolis in september 1878, in a tomb at 1.2m depth built of limestone slabs and containing other ceramic vessels (see Barelli 1878b, Poggi 1879: 310, no. 40, Giussani 1902: 44, no. 13, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 148, De Marinis 1986: 75, no. 4). Type De Marinis D1 according to Morandi.
