Inscribed on the shoulder of the fiasca a trottola. plai (length ca. 2.5 cm), though faint, is well legible. As indicated in Crivelli's drawing, the surface is damaged after iota, but no traces of letters can be seen in the intermediate space of min. 0.5 cm; the first sequence is probably complete. At a distance of about 5 cm and somewhat farther from the neck, a second and slightly larger letter is inscribed; its relation to the main inscription is unclear (cf. Morandi 1999: 164 f., no. 8, 187). Morandi interprets the text (or part of it) as an abbreviated personal name.
