The olpe is part of a number of finds made in the vicinity of a brickyard, presumably the remains of a necropolis which was gradually destroyed in the course of the sourcing of loam for the bricks, handed over by the owner P. F. Clerici to the museum in three installments in 1890, 1892 and 1914 (Tizzoni 1984: 83 f. with a list of the identifiable material and a detailed description of the olpe). Tizzoni dates the olpe to the second half of the 1st c. AD, which does not agree with the dating of the other material (1st c. BC, cf. Molinari 1974: 73: late 1st c. BC) and is also doubtful with regard to the inscription.
