Commentary
on-stem personal name in the nominative, most probably a hypocoristic formed from a compound name with first element katu- 'battle, fight' (i.e. katū, or kattū with hypocoristic gemination), though other readings (k/gā̆(n)t(t)/d-) are theoretically possible – cf. e.g. kanto/i- in CIL XIII 4547 cantognati (Neufgrange), RIG M-291 cantorix (coin legend), for which multiple etymologies are feasible (see DLG: 103–105 kanti- 'together with', kanto- 'hundred', kantos 'circle [of the wheel], rim'). Cf. Salomon 2024c: 2, Salomon 2024: 162 f.
