Commentary

Personal name in the genitive in patronymic function, see Pellegrini 1963: 303, Lejeune 1971: 52, Evans 1972: 182, Tibiletti Bruno 1975: 54, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 148, Tibiletti Bruno 1981: 187, no. 32, RIG II.1: 40, Lejeune 1990: 71, Morandi 2004: 591, no. 101 (unconvincingly against the interpretation as a genitival patronym Tibiletti Bruno 1964: 171–174).

The base of the underlying name kep(ii̯)os could be kep(p)- or keb-, neither clearly Celtic. Potential comparanda for kep- are mentioned by Pellegrini 1963: 305, n. 17, Lejeune 1971: 63, n. 203, Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 148 and Tibiletti Bruno 1981: 187, no. 32; while they are sparse, CIL V 5569 ceponis (gen.) at Castelnovate and AE 2002: 584 cepasiae (gen.) at Vercelli (Delamarre 2007: 64) attest its existence in the area. Lejeune and Tibiletti Bruno 1964: 170 f. note that toponyms, but no personal names, in ceb- exist in Liguria. See also De Bernardo Stempel 2005: 190.
