Commentary
Compound anthroponym with a second element rīg- (Morandi 1999: 176); various analyses and etymologies have been proposed for the first element: *ordo-rīχs (Markey 2006: 155, n. 6; Stifter 2010: 372), *ukso-rīχs- (Tibiletti Bruno 1981, cf. Tibiletti Bruno 1989: 112-113). It is not clear whether final -⟨s⟩ stands for the cluster [χs], or whether the non-spelling of [χ] indicates that the cluster had already been reduced to a simple sibilant in this position; cf. toutoris.Tibiletti Bruno 1978: 147 suggests *osso-rīg-io-n (cf. Ir. Osraige); cf. maybe Lat. Ostorius?
